Qatari teen Fares wins silver at World Championship

Doha: Qatari weightlifter Fares Ibrahim won the silver medal in the 94kg clean and jerk category at the 2017 World Weightlifting Championships in Anaheim in California, US. Fares, aged 19, won the medal after he managed to lift 220kg.

Iran’s Sorab Moradi won gold in clean and jerk as well in snatch while his compatriot Seyedayoob Mousavijarahi took bronze. Mousavijarahi also won the overall bronze.

Fares, who finished seventh at 2016 Rio Olympics, had recently won at the World Junior Championships in Japan, adding to his 2016 Asian Championship title.
