Beirut: Qatari men and women’s team arrived in here on Saturday to take part in the second edition of West Asian Youth Athletics Championships.
The competition starts today. Kuwait, Oman, UAE, Yemen, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and the hosts are the other participating teams.
The Qatari delegation was headed by Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, President of the Qatar Athletics Federation, in addition to the administrative and technical bodies for athletics and (16) athletes, including three female athletes, in various races and competitions for the championship.
Nayef Khasif and Omar Daoud in the (110m) hurdles and Saeed Al Sahouti in the 100m and 200m races, Tamim Al-Tamimi (100m), Abdul Majeed Zakaria (200m), Ismail Daoud (400m) and (400m hurdles), Muhammad Noah in 400m hurdles and Abdul Rahman Abkar (400m), Ahmed Jibreen in shot put and discus, Khaled Al-Hajj (discus throwing competition), Saja Saadoun (200m + 400m) hurdles, Layal Ibrahim in heptathlon and high jump competitions, and Samar Al Mansoori in (Pole vault and triple jump).
Qatari athletics is looking forward to continuing its successes in winning medals, in addition to making technical use of a number of promising elements, according to the Federation’s vision in forming a generation for the future, preserving the continuity of generations and Qatari achievements.
The Qatari national athletics team had recently participated in a camp in Turkey, in preparation for this event.
