Spain and Argentina headline draw at 2024 FIP World Padel Championships in Doha

DOHA: The draw for the 2024 FIP World Padel Championships took place yesterday at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha, with reigning champions Spain and 11-time winners Argentina positioned as strong contenders in the men’s competition. Hosted by the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation (QTSBF) for the second time since 2021, this year’s championship will see 32 elite men’s and women’s teams competing for global glory.

Present at the draw ceremony were International Padel Federation President Luigi Carraro and QTSBF Secretary-General and Tournament Director Tariq Darwish Zainal, along with other prominent officials. Teams were divided into four groups in both men’s and women’s divisions, promising high-stakes matchups across the tournament.

In the men’s category, Argentina, boasting an impressive legacy with 11 titles, lead Group A and will face Belgium, Italy, and the USA. Spain, four-time champions and the current title holders, spearhead Group B alongside Paraguay, Mexico, and the UAE. Bronze winners France anchor Group C, joined by hosts Qatar, Chile, and Uruguay. Meanwhile, the competition’s “Group of Death,” Group D, brings together formidable squads from Portugal, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Sweden, setting the stage for fiercely contested matches.

The stage is set for an exciting championship as the world’s best padel teams compete in Doha, with Spain and Argentina eager to extend their legacies amidst strong challenges from emerging teams.(Gulf Times)
