Doha: Top seed Abdulla Al Tamimi of Qatar defeated Egypt’s Karim El Hammamy in straight games to win the Qatar Circuit No.4 – PSA M15 event – at Doha’s Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old Aspire Academy product who is ranked 43 in the world, thrashed World No.77 El Hammamy 11-2, 11-5 11-4 in just 26 minutes.
Tamimi, who said last week that the Qatar tournament would be an ideal preparation for next month’s World Championship in Manchester, was happy to win in front of the home crowd, with his father and elder brother also in attendance.
“It is always a delight to win before your home crowd. I am happy I have lived up to their expectations. Playing at home brings a certain amount of pressure but overcame that to win the title.”
“I have had some bad tournaments and bad matches. I have not been consistent enough. I am happy that I was consistent in this tournament and I wish to carry the consistency in the next events of the second half of the season.”
“I have one and half week to go before I leave for the World Championship, I will be leaving for England on December 7, so till this time it more hard work and more work on the courts,” said Tamimi.
