Nouran Gohar reaches first Qatar QTerminals classic final

DOHA: Egyptian squash star Nouran Gohar, ranked second in the world, has advanced to the final of the 2024 Qatar QTerminals Classic Squash Championship for the first time. Gohar secured her spot after a hard-fought victory over American player Olivia Weaver, ranked fifth, with a score of three games to one (11-5, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6) in a match that lasted 54 minutes.

In the final, Gohar will face compatriot and top seed Nour El Sherbini, who qualified for her third final in Doha by defeating last year’s champion, Hania El Hammamy, in a thrilling five-game battle. El Sherbini, the world’s top-ranked player, overcame El Hammamy to secure a place in the championship decider.

Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Gohar expressed her joy at reaching the final of such a prestigious event. She hailed the tournament as one of the biggest in squash, highlighting the efforts of the Qatari Squash Federation and the organizing committee for hosting a world-class competition.

In the men’s event, Egypt’s Mostafa Asal, ranked third, reached the final after defeating Welsh player Joel Makin three games to one (5-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-4), setting the stage for a dramatic finale in both the men’s and women’s categories.(QNA)
