El Shorbagy to meet Momen in final

Doha: Egyptian Mohamed El Shorbagy defeated World No.1 Gregory Gaultier on Thursday to enter the final of the Qatar Classic for a fourth consecutive year.

El Shorbagy, who had to play thrilling five-setter in the quarterfinal against Ali Farag showed no ill effects of it in the last-four clash against Gaultier to win it (3-0) 14-12, 11-9, 11-1.

“I’m really happy to be back in the final here, it’s where I won my first ever World Series and to be back in my fourth consecutive final is an honour,” said El Shorbagy.

Friday’s final match at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex will pit the world No.4 against compatriot Tarek Momen, who defeated Germany’s Simon Rosner in the other semifinal.

Momen cruised past Rosner (3-0) 11-9, 11-5, 11-7 in just over 40 minutes to reach the first World Series final of his career.

“I really wanted to win. It’s been long overdue for me. I’ve been waiting to get to the finals of a major event for a long time. I saw the opportunity today and wanted to make the most of it," said Momen.
