Al Tamimi’s dazzling run in PSA World Championships ends in last 16
Doha: Qatari ace Abdulla Al Tamimi’s heroic run in the PSA World Championship in Manchester ended at the hands of England’s Nick Mathew in the last 16 on Tuesday.
World No.4 Mathew won the match 11-4, 11-8, 11-8, but the 22 year old, an Aspire Academy product, had already made his mark in the tournament, registering sensational victories in the first and second rounds and in the process becoming the first Qatari player to reach the last 16.
Al Tamimi earned the distinction of the becoming the first player to win the match when he accounted for Germany’s 11th seed Simon Rosner in five sets, (12-14, 11-9, 7-11, 11-7 and 11-3) then defeated Frenchman Mathieu Castagnet in four (11-5, 11-6, 6-11 11-7).
