Volleyball fraternity mourn death of Jamal Sayar

Doha: Volleyball fraternity in Qatar joined together to mourn the death of Jamal Sayar who drowned in the sea during a fishing trip near an island close to Dukhan beach. He was 55.

Sayar, who played as a setter for Qatar for 15 years before retiring from the national team in 2003, has also featured for a number of clubs including Al Arabi, Al Sadd, Al Shamal, Police, Qatar Sports Cup and Al Rayyan.

He has won many accolades, including finishing as the runners up in the Arab Championship in 1996 during his glittering career.

He was also an assistant coach of the Qatar Under-19 team for a brief period in 2014.

Qatar Volleyball Association President Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari, former chief Khaled Al Mawlawi and Volleyball Head of Police club Rashid Al Mahmoud were among those who paid tributes to Sayar.
