Qatar lose to Indonesia

Doha: Qatar lost to hosts Indonesia 24-26, 14-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-11 in a pulsating match to be out of contention for a quarterfinal berth in the SMM 19th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Tri Dhama Petrokimia Gymnasium in Surabaya, Indonesia, on Wednesday.

Qatar had made a strong comeback in the tournament with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Saudi Arabia in the second match after having lost to Kazakhstan in their opener, and looked set to continue their form against Indonesia as they won the first two sets convincingly.

But they then lost control over the match and the next three sets.

The victory took Indonesia to the last eight along with pool champions Kazakhstan.

In their last match in Pool A, Kazakhstan defeated Saudi Arabia 25-13, 25-22, 25-17.

Kazakhstan finished their Pool A engagements with seven points while Indonesia have six.

Qatar, with one point each from their two narrow defeats, have five points while Saudi Arabia failed to open their account.
