Qatar crowned champions of first West Asian Volleyball Championship after epic final

MANAMA: Qatar’s men’s volleyball team were crowned champions of the first-ever West Asian Volleyball Championship after a dramatic 3-2 victory over hosts Bahrain in Sunday’s final in Manama. The match was a pulsating contest, with Qatar eventually triumphing 25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 21-25, 15-13 to secure the historic title.
Both teams displayed exceptional skill and resilience throughout the five-set battle. Qatar took a commanding two-set lead before Bahrain staged a spirited comeback to force a decider. In a tense fifth set, the Qatari side held their nerve to clinch the win and claim the championship.
Qatar’s road to the final was marked by dominant performances. They booked their place in the semifinals with a straight-sets victory over Oman, following a commanding quarterfinal win against Lebanon (25-17, 25-15, 25-13). Earlier in the group stage, Qatar topped Group B with three wins—defeating Saudi Arabia 3-0, Oman 3-1, and edging Kuwait 3-2.
With this victory, Qatar not only secured the first title in the tournament’s history but also underlined their growing stature in regional volleyball.
