Police stun holders Arabi

THE law of averages finally caught up with champions Al Arabi as they lost for the first time in the Qatar League.
A marauding Police outfit handed a 25-20, 25-27, 25-23, 25-17 defeat to Al Arabi, who have looked in red-hot form during their eight-match winning streak.
Arabi coach Mawia Alajnaf has to make sure that the defeat does not dampen his players’ morale as the Reds are set to take on arch-rivals Al Rayyan in first phase’s last match on Wednesday.
Police took the first set 25-20. Though Arabi drew level in the second, they found the going tough afterwards.
Just like in the last encounter against Al Ahli, it was Danish professional Mads Ditlevsen who did the star turn for the Cops. He got good support from Qatar internationals Chigbo John and Nadr Aboubacker as Argentinian coach Damian Arredondo rotated his players well.
In other action, Al Gharafa beat Al Sadd 29-27, 25-22, 26-24, El Jaish rallied from one set down to beat Al Wakrah 22-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-14 and Qatar Sports Club defeated Al Khor 25-21, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20.
