Police clinch maiden Qatar League crown

DOHA: Police clinched their maiden Qatar League crown after the match between Al Arabi and El Jaish went to five sets.
Arabi beat El Jaish 23-25, 25-15, 26-24, 15-25, 15-9 in a five-set thriller at Qatar Sports Club on Saturday.
But they needed to win the match either 3-0 or 3-1 to have any mathematical chance of retaining the title.
With one match to go against Arabi on Wednesday, two-time runners-up Police have an unassailable lead of 51 points.
The Cops have lost just two matches — to Al Rayyan in the first phase and Jaish in the second — from 19 outings this season.
Jaish ended their campaign with 49 points from 20 matches.
Arabi have 47 from 19 games and only a 3-0 or 3-1 set win against Police on Wednesday will fetch them a runner-up spot.
Former champions Rayyan, who have 43 from 19, bowed out of title contention earlier on Friday following their 17-25, 16-25, 24-26 loss to Police.
Irrespective of the outcome of their final tie against Al Shamal on Monday, Rayyan will finish fourth in the league table.
