Dar Kulaib emphasise Bahrain’s strength

BAHRAINI clubs have always dominated the GCC Championship and Dar Kulaib became the latest from that country to join the honours’ list.

Bahraini sides have now won 14 of the 35 editions held so far. Al Muharraq are the most successful club in championship history with 10 triumphs.

Al Najma won it twice while Dar Kulaib join Al Nasr as one-time winners.

“I think we’re moving in the right direction. We beat some strong teams. We played to our strengths and the results took care of themselves,” said Dar Kulaib’s Mohammad Yaqoub, who was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, which featured seven top clubs from the region.

Dar Kulaib players won the lion’s share of the awards, with Ali Khairallah being the best libero.
