Coach Baracetti wants Qatar to keep winning

NEW coach Mariano Baracetti, who has had a rollicking start to his Qatar stint, wants his team to continue the momentum. Qatar won the Pak Bara Master at Thailand and Aspire Qatar Master at home under the Argentinian, who took over last month, and they also finished fourth at the Asian Tour event in Songkhla, Thailand.
Baracetti, who guided Argentina to Pan American Games gold medal at Toronto in 2015, felt Qatar would only benefit by playing strong opponents.
“I’m very happy with the way my team is playing right now. Also, I’m delighted with the manner in which they’re responding in crunch situations. The final of Aspire Qatar Master was quite tough. But Jefferson Pereira and Cheriff Younousse came through (against Australian duo of Chris McHugh and Damien Schumann 21-12, 29-27, 15-13),” said Baracetti.
Having succeeded in his initial task of making the team qualify for the World Championship, Baracetti is getting ready for the big challenge ahead.
“My initial task was to guide the team to the World Championship. Now comes the big test. As part of our preparations for the Worlds, we’ll leave for Europe on Saturday for a training camp. There we’ll play matches every weekend. It’s important to be in good shape for a fine performance during the Vienna Worlds,” Baracetti added.
The 42-year-old was happy with the game’s progress in Qatar.
“I’m proud to be given an opportunity to work with the Qatar national team. Now, we’ve three teams working every day. Also I saw many other young guys playing under coaches in clubs. They’re also doing a good job. I hope the new players will shape well and push hard to get into the senior side,” Baracetti concluded.
