HONG KONG: Coleman Wong, hailing from the Rafael Nadal Academy, has etched his name in the annals of Hong Kong tennis history by becoming the first player from the region to secure a spot in an ATP Masters 1000 event.
Wong’s remarkable feat was sealed with a hard-fought victory over India’s Sumit Nagal in the Miami Open qualifiers on March 19, clinching a spot in the main draw.
Wong’s journey to this milestone began with his early dominance on the doubles circuit, where he showcased his talent alongside partners like Max Westphal and Bruno Kujuhara.
His prowess was evident as he clinched titles, notably winning the Junior US Open Boys doubles in 2021 and the Australian Open doubles in 2022, becoming the first player since Hsu Yu-hsiou in 2017 to achieve consecutive junior-level triumphs.
Transitioning to singles events, Wong continued to impress, reaching the semi-finals of the boy’s singles at the 2022 US Open. His relentless pursuit of excellence and unwavering dedication have established him as a flag bearer for male tennis in Hong Kong, setting a new benchmark for aspiring players in the region.
