Swiatek dominates Raducanu to advance to Australian Open fourth round

MELBOURNE: Second seed Iga Swiatek delivered a commanding performance to defeat Emma Raducanu 6-1, 6-0, securing her spot in the fourth round of the Australian Open on Saturday. The match, a clash between two former U.S. Open champions, unfolded in Swiatek’s favor in just 70 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.

Swiatek, Poland’s top-ranked player, targeted Raducanu’s backhand and capitalized on the Briton’s vulnerable second serve. After dropping the opening game, Swiatek won 11 straight games, underlining her dominance.

“I just enjoyed playing. I played a few shots where I thought, ‘yeah, this is what I practised for,’” said the 23-year-old, who has now beaten Raducanu in all four of their encounters.

Swiatek’s clinical performance included converting five of 12 break points, while her own serve remained unchallenged throughout the match. For Raducanu, who has struggled with injuries since her 2021 U.S. Open triumph, the match highlighted her ongoing challenges.

With this victory, Swiatek advances to the last 16 in Melbourne for the fifth time, looking increasingly confident in her quest for a fourth Grand Slam title.
