Swiatek defeats Muchova to reach the Indian Wells quarter-final

INDIAN WELLS, California: Iga Swiatek delivered a commanding performance at Indian Wells on Tuesday, dismantling Karolina Muchova 6-1, 6-1 to storm into the quarter-finals. The two-time champion showed no signs of slowing down in the California desert, having dropped just six games in her three matches so far.

After a rain delay, the Polish second seed wasted no time in asserting her dominance, racing through the first four games and winning every point on her first serve in the opening set. Muchova, who had made an impressive comeback last year following wrist surgery, struggled to match Swiatek’s intensity and committed a flurry of errors in the second set.

Swiatek wrapped up the match in just 57 minutes, sealing victory with an unreturnable serve. She will next face either Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen or Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, in the men’s draw, Denmark’s Holger Rune booked his spot in the final eight with a solid 6-4, 6-4 victory over Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas.
