Sabalenka powers into U.S. Open semi-final as Fritz and Tiafoe set up all-American showdown
NEW YORK: Aryna Sabalenka stormed into her fourth consecutive U.S. Open semi-final with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over China’s Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen on Tuesday. The second seed needed just 73 minutes to dispatch Zheng and will now face American Emma Navarro in the next round.
Sabalenka, who has only lost four service games throughout the tournament, has emerged as a strong favorite to claim another Grand Slam title after her Australian Open triumphs.
Meanwhile, the men’s singles semi-finals will feature an all-American clash between Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Fritz, the 12th seed, overcame world number four Alexander Zverev in a thrilling four-set match, while Tiafoe advanced after Grigor Dimitrov retired due to injury.
