Rune gains new perspective from Agassi training block

TORONTO: World No. 9 Holger Rune believes a short training stint with tennis legend Andre Agassi could be pivotal in elevating his game. The 22-year-old Dane spent three days with the eight-time Grand Slam champion in Washington earlier this month, describing the experience as eye-opening.

“It was insane. I’ve never met a guy who sees tennis that way and I found it interesting,” Rune told Tennis Channel during the Canadian Open in Toronto. “It gave me a unique insight into how he views the game.”

Rune burst onto the scene three years ago by winning the Paris Masters, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final after a remarkable run against four top-10 players. But since then, his progress has been slower, with only two more titles and no Grand Slam semi-final appearances.

As contemporaries like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner rise to dominate the sport, Rune is seeking ways to break through. The collaboration with Agassi, though brief, may offer just the tactical and mental edge he needs to take the next step.
