Qatar to take on Sri Lanka in playoff

Colombo: Qatar will take on hosts and Pool A winners Sri Lanka in the playoff of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III event in Colombo on Saturday.

Qatar booked their berth with a 2-0 victory against Malaysia in their final group match.

Qatar’s hopes of making the playoff were dealt a big blow when they lost to Lebanon who emerged as Group B winners, but they came back strongly against Malaysia.Jabor Al Mutawa gave Qatar the start they needed with a 7-6 (7), 1-6, 6-4 victory against Hao Sheng Koay while Mubarak Shannan was awarded the second match when Malaysia’s other player Mohamed Assri Merzuki was forced to retire just five games.

 Lebanon will play Pool A runners-up Jordan in the other promotion play-off.
