Osaka parts ways with coach Fissette after four years
TOKYO: Naomi Osaka has officially parted ways with her coach, Wim Fissette, after four years together across two stints. The 26-year-old tennis star made the announcement late on Friday, marking the end of a partnership that saw her claim two of her four Grand Slam titles under the Belgian coach’s guidance.
Osaka, a former world number one, is currently ranked 75th, having returned to the tour nine months ago after a maternity break. Despite her previous successes, she has struggled to regain her top form this season. Of the 16 tournaments she has entered, Osaka has reached the quarter-finals in only two — Doha and ‘s-Hertogenbosch — and has failed to progress beyond the second round in all four Grand Slams.
Reflecting on her time with Fissette, Osaka shared her gratitude in an Instagram post: “Four years, two slams and a whole lot of memories. Thanks Wim for being a great coach and an even greater person. Wishing you all the best.”
