Norrie, Vondrousova withdraw from U.S. Open due to injuries

NEW YORK: Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova and British number two Cameron Norrie have withdrawn from the 2024 U.S. Open, the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) announced on Friday. Both players are still recovering from injuries that had also forced them to miss the Paris Olympics.
Vondrousova, who made the difficult decision to skip the Olympic Games due to a hand injury, had initially set her sights on recovering in time for the year’s final Grand Slam. However, the Czech star’s injury has not healed sufficiently, leading to her withdrawal from the U.S. Open, which is set to begin on August 26 in New York.
Cameron Norrie, who enjoyed his best U.S. Open run in 2022 by reaching the fourth round, also pulled out of the tournament as he continues to recover from a forearm injury. Like Vondrousova, Norrie had previously withdrawn from the Paris Olympics in the hope of recuperating in time for the U.S. Open, but the injury has persisted.(Reuters)
