No former French Open champions remain in women’s draw

PARIS: With Iga Swiatek’s shocking exit, Roland Garros is guaranteed to crown a new champion. The door is wide open, but who will rise to the occasion?

Iga Swiatek’s 25th birthday celebrations have turned sour at the French Open as the former champion was ousted by Ukrainian 15th seed Marta Kostyuk in straight sets in the round of 16.

Bidding for a fifth Roland Garros title, Swiatek went out 7-5, 6-1 on Sunday after a round of shock exits at this year’s tournament in the French capital.

Can world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka finally conquer Paris, or will another contender seize the biggest opportunity of their career?

The race for the French Open title is on.
