NBK tennis tourney again big hit
CURTAINS came down on the 27th NBK Ramadan Tennis Tournament last week.
The tournament, one of the oldest on the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation’s (QTSBF) calendar, was held under the patronage of NBK Group CEO Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser Al Thani.
Competitions were held in nine categories — men’s singles and doubles, veterans singles and doubles, singles events in boys’ Under-18, U-14, U-12, U-10 and girls’ U-14 events.
Matches were held simultaneously at three venues — Doha Sheraton, which also hosted the final, Al Dana Club Courts and the hard courts of Khalifa International Complex.
Sheikh Nawaf and QTSBF General Secretary Tariq Zainal Al Darwish honoured the winners.
“We had a record 250 entries this time. The NBK Ramadan Tennis is a very important local tournament, where our top national stars engage themselves in intense duels. That the tournament just completed its 27th edition gives you an idea of the success it has achieved so far. Most participants come out with families and enjoy playing in front of their folks,” said Tournament Director and country’s first Davis Cupper Sultan Khalfan, who honed his game through tournaments such as the NBK Ramadan Tennis. dsp
