Keys extends winning streak to reach Indian Wells quarter-finals

INDIAN WELLS, California: Madison Keys battled past Donna Vekic 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-3 on Wednesday to secure her spot in the Indian Wells quarter-finals, extending her winning streak to 15 matches. The American, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, fired seven aces and fought back from a set down to set up a clash with Swiss wildcard Belinda Bencic.

Vekic, the reigning Olympic silver medallist, showed resilience in the opening set, saving four break points and dominating on serve. She led 5-3 in the second-set tiebreak, but Keys responded with clutch play, sealing it with an unreturnable serve.

Riding the momentum, Keys dictated play in the decider, finishing the match with a powerful forehand to the delight of the home crowd. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff suffered a surprising defeat to Bencic, while world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka cruised through her match.
