Karatsev wins ITF World Tennis Tour title in Doha

Doha, Qatar: Aslan Karatsev of Russia defeated Aleksandre Bakshi of Georgia 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the final to win the Doha ITF World Tennis Tour men’s singles title.

In the final played at Doha’s Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, Karatsev started slowly and lost the first set, but he came back strongly to completely ouplay his rival in the next two.

The top-seeded Russian, ranked 944 on the ATP list, had defeated Belgian No 4 seed Zizou Bergs in the semifinal while Bakshi got the better of Sweden’s Karl Friberg.

The doubles title went to Sweden’s Simon Freund and Jonathan Mridha who downed Bergs and his partner Zura Tkemaladzein of Georgia in the final.

The tournament was organised by the Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) in association with the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
