Indian Wells breaks attendance record with over 500,000 fans

LOS ANGELES: The Indian Wells Masters set a new all-time attendance record in 2025, with 504,268 tennis fans passing through its gates during the two-week tournament, organizers confirmed on Sunday. This figure surpassed the previous record of 493,440 set at the 2024 event.

Held annually in the California desert, the tournament is a favorite among fans and players alike. Indian Wells Tennis Garden, with its picturesque palm-lined setting, has been voted the best ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event for the past decade. The competition is often dubbed the “fifth Grand Slam” due to its prestige and popularity.

This year’s singles titles were claimed by Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva and England’s Jack Draper, both of whom are rising stars in the sport. The event also secured its future stability, as French bank BNP Paribas renewed its title sponsorship through 2029.

Founded in 1974, Indian Wells has grown significantly since American billionaire Larry Ellison purchased it for $100 million in 2009, transforming the venue into one of the most celebrated stops on the tennis calendar.(Reuters)
