Hurkacz cruises as rain disrupts Geneva Open schedule

GENEVA: No. 6 seed Hubert Hurkacz of Poland made a confident start to his Gonet Geneva Open campaign on a rain-hit Tuesday, dispatching French wild card Arthur Cazaux 6-3, 6-4. Hurkacz fired 17 winners and saved 3 of 4 break points in the straight-sets win, which was one of only three Round of 32 matches completed due to persistent weather delays.
Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech also advanced smoothly, defeating Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic 6-4, 6-2 in 73 minutes without facing a single break point, while hitting four aces.
Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan delivered the most dominant performance of the day, thrashing Brazilian qualifier Karue Sell 6-1, 6-1 in just 46 minutes. Marozsan held a staggering 20-4 edge in winners during the one-sided encounter.
Several remaining first-round matches were postponed to Wednesday due to the inclement conditions.
