Gauff dominates Kenin with double bagel at Miami Open

MIAMI: Third seed Coco Gauff delivered a ruthless performance at the Miami Open on Thursday, dismantling fellow American Sofia Kenin 6-0, 6-0 in just 47 minutes to storm into the third round. The former U.S. Open champion was in complete control, winning 84% of her first-serve points, saving the lone break point she faced, and converting six of her nine break opportunities.
“I was definitely playing well today, and maybe she wasn’t playing her peak great tennis,” Gauff said after the match. “I don’t think anyone who is playing their best tennis will have that scoreline.”
Gauff, who is chasing her first Miami Open title, will next face Ashlyn Krueger, who pulled off a stunning upset against seventh seed Elena Rybakina, winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 for her first top-10 victory.
Meanwhile, top seed Aryna Sabalenka made a strong start to her campaign, defeating Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova 6-3, 6-0. The two-time Grand Slam champion, playing her first match since losing the Indian Wells final to Mirra Andreeva, broke Tomova’s serve six times in a dominant display.(Reuters)
