Fritz retains Eastbourne crown with commanding win over Brooksby

EASTBOURNE, England: Taylor Fritz continued his love affair with the Eastbourne Open, defeating fellow American Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-1 in Saturday’s final to retain his title and lift the trophy for the third time.
The top seed, who also won in 2019 and 2022, extended his perfect record in Eastbourne finals with another victory over a compatriot. Despite being pushed to three sets in each of his previous three matches this week, the final proved a more straightforward affair for Fritz.
“There’s something about Eastbourne,” said the 26-year-old. “I just love it here. This year I’ve had to fight through some tough matches, but I feel like I’ve really upped my level.”
Brooksby, a lucky loser in the draw, started strong and even broke first in the opening set. But Fritz responded swiftly, breaking twice to claim the opener. From there, it was one-way traffic, with Fritz fending off two early break points in the second set before cruising to his fourth ATP Tour title.
