Former champions handed Wimbledon wildcards

Four Grand Slam champions received wildcards into the Wimbledon women’s singles on Wednesday.

Naomi Osaka, a two-time Australian and US Open winner, will return to Wimbledon’s main draw for the first time in five years following maternity leave. The 26-year-old former world number one joins fellow champion Caroline Wozniacki, the 33-year-old Dane who also topped the rankings previously.

Angelique Kerber, the 2018 Wimbledon winner and another ex-world number one returning from maternity leave, has also received a wildcard.

Home favorite Emma Raducanu, the surprise US Open champion in 2021, completes the list. Following wrist and ankle surgery in 2023, the 21-year-old will return to Wimbledon’s grass courts for the first time in two years. Raducanu reached the fourth round in 2021 before her US Open triumph.
