Djokovic withdraws from Miami Open to prioritize schedule management

World number one Novak Djokovic has announced his decision to skip the upcoming Miami Open in a post on X, as part of his strategy to limit his tournament appearances this year. In a statement made on Saturday, the 36-year-old Serb emphasized the need to balance his private and professional commitments.

Expressing regret over missing out on the opportunity to engage with passionate fans, Djokovic highlighted the significance of managing his schedule at this stage of his career.

With six Miami Open titles under his belt, his most recent victory dating back to 2016, Djokovic’s absence comes in the wake of a surprise third-round defeat to 123rd-ranked Italian Luka Nardi at Indian Wells.

Despite this setback, the 24-times Grand Slam champion is set to focus on the upcoming ATP Tour’s clay-court swing in pursuit of his first trophy of the year. The Miami Open main draw action is scheduled to commence from Wednesday.
