Chardy, Martin doubles champs

Frenchmen Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin beat the third-seeded Canadian-Czech duo of Vasek Pospisil and Radek Stepanek 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to clinch the doubles title.

After beating the top-seeded pair of England’s Jamie Murray and Brazil’s Bruno Soares 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3) in the semifinal, the Frenchmen were high on confidence going into the final and duly dispatched their rivals with ease.

Chardy and Martin have been gelling well in recent times and had reached the quarterfinal of last year’s ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.

“We knew we could beat some good teams. For me, especially to win with Jeremy (Chardy), it’s the best I can imagine. I want to thank him,” said Martin, for whom it was his third career ATP doubles title, one less than Chardy. dsp
