Alcaraz beats Medvedev to retain title at Indian Wells

CALIFORNIA: Carlos Alcaraz showcased resilience and determination as he successfully defended his Indian Wells title with a stunning 7-6(5), 6-1 victory over Daniil Medvedev in the final on Sunday.

The win not only ends a title drought for the world number two, dating back to last summer’s Wimbledon, but also marks him as the first man to defend a championship in the California desert since Novak Djokovic’s reign from 2014-2016.

Despite battling an ankle injury that lingered in his mind from last month’s Rio Open, Alcaraz overcame a sluggish start against Medvedev. Initially falling 3-0 behind due to unforced errors, the Spaniard rallied back to level the score and eventually force a tiebreak. In a tightly contested breaker, Alcaraz’s powerful forehand proved decisive, clinching him the first set.

The second set saw Alcaraz dominating the court, as he surged ahead, culminating in a victorious moment when Medvedev’s forehand error on match point sealed the Spaniard’s triumph. Alcaraz’s resilience and determination throughout the match underscored his prowess and determination on the court, solidifying his status as a force to be reckoned with in the tennis world.
