BNP Paribas extends sponsorship of Indian Wells tournament for five more years

NDIAN WELLS, California: The BNP Paribas Open will continue to be the official name of the prestigious tennis tournament in Indian Wells, California, for at least the next five years. The announcement came on Friday as the French bank and event organizers confirmed the renewal of their long-standing title sponsorship deal.
Since BNP Paribas first became the tournament’s title sponsor 17 years ago, the event has grown significantly, earning its reputation as “Tennis Paradise.” Indian Wells consistently attracts large crowds and has been voted the favorite ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event by players for the past decade.
“When there is a good marriage, you stick with it,” said Jose Placido, CEO of BNP Paribas USA, emphasizing the strong relationship between the bank and the tournament. “Like any good marriage, you just renew your vows every five years. In this case, we signed a new contract.”
While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the renewed partnership signals continued investment in maintaining the tournament’s elite status. Assistant tournament director Peggy Michel stressed the importance of ongoing improvements to keep the event at the top.
“Our motto here is that we’re never satisfied,” Michel said, reinforcing the commitment to enhancing the fan and player experience at Indian Wells.(Reuters)
