TURIN,Italy: Carlos Alcaraz capped a remarkable season by clinching the year-end world number one ranking after a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Lorenzo Musetti at the ATP Finals on Thursday, a result that also confirmed his place atop the Jimmy Connors Group. The win not only eliminated Musetti from the tournament but also propelled Alex De Minaur into the semi-finals following the Australian’s earlier triumph over Taylor Fritz.

Despite a somewhat patchy performance, Alcaraz delivered when it mattered most, completing a clean sweep of his round-robin matches and shutting the door on Jannik Sinner’s hopes of reclaiming the top spot in the rankings.

“The match was really important for me, playing for year-end number one,” Alcaraz said after the win. “It wasn’t easy at the beginning with the nerves. I tried to handle that pressure the best I could, so I’m just really happy with the level I played and to be able to end the year as the number one.”

This marks the second time the Spaniard has finished a season at the summit, having first achieved the feat in 2022. His 2025 campaign has been his finest yet, featuring three Grand Slam finals—winning the French Open and U.S. Open, and finishing runner-up at Wimbledon—all against rival Jannik Sinner.
