Alcaraz powers into Australian Open third round with dominant win

MELBOURNE: Carlos Alcaraz delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday, storming into the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka. The third seed showcased his dominance over left-handers in Grand Slam matches, extending his perfect record against “southpaws” to 8-0.
Playing at Margaret Court Arena, Alcaraz wasted no time, wrapping up the match in just one hour and 21 minutes. The Spaniard’s relentless focus and energy were evident as he claimed the first nine games before Nishioka, ranked 65th in the world, managed to hold serve and draw cheers from the supportive crowd.
Reflecting on the importance of efficient victories, Alcaraz said, “I think the less time you spend on the court at the Grand Slams … it’s going to be better, you know? Physically, I’m feeling great. I just tried to be focused.”(Reuters)
