Alcaraz eyes Australian Open glory to complete career Grand Slam

MELBOURNE: Carlos Alcaraz has already etched his name among tennis’s brightest stars, showcasing his brilliance with Grand Slam titles on clay, grass, and hard courts. Yet, the 21-year-old Spaniard arrives at the 2025 Australian Open with a new mission: conquering the final frontier in his blossoming career.

Should Alcaraz claim the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup at Melbourne Park later this month, he will make history as the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam. This rare achievement—winning all four major titles—would place him alongside legends such as Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

Alcaraz’s previous attempts at the Australian Open have seen him falter no further than the quarter-finals. Despite this, the world number three remains optimistic and has set his sights on a triumphant campaign at the Jan. 12–26 event.

In a recent interview with Marca, Alcaraz shared his unique way of commemorating Grand Slam victories. “I have it in mind to get a tattoo of a kangaroo,” he said, hinting at his determination to immortalize an Australian Open triumph on his skin. “The goal is to complete the Grand Slam in Melbourne.”

Having already conquered the French Open and Wimbledon, Alcaraz also boasts the 2022 U.S. Open title. A victory in Melbourne would not only elevate him into tennis’s elite company but solidify his reputation as one of the modern game’s greatest players.

As the Australian Open looms, fans eagerly await whether Alcaraz will add the missing piece to his Grand Slam puzzle and cement his legacy as a generational talent.(Reuters)
