Alcaraz edges Fritz in thriller to reach third straight Wimbledon final

Carlos Alcaraz moved within one win of a Wimbledon hat-trick after defeating American fifth seed Taylor Fritz 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (8/6) in Friday’s semi-final. The 22-year-old Spaniard endured scorching conditions and a gritty opponent in a tense two-hour, 49-minute battle on Centre Court to reach his third consecutive final at the All England Club.

“It was a really difficult match, as always when I play against Taylor. Even tougher with the conditions. It was really hot today,” said Alcaraz. “I dealt with the nerves. Playing here in a semi-final is not easy. I’m really proud with the way I stayed calm and thought clearly.”
