Alcaraz defeats Sinner to claim second U.S. Open crown

NEW YORK: Carlos Alcaraz underlined his status as tennis’s present and future by winning his second U.S. Open title on Sunday, defeating rival Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in a high-quality final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The 22-year-old Spaniard, who first lifted the trophy in New York in 2022, showcased his growth from raw talent to polished champion. With the victory, Alcaraz not only captured his sixth career Grand Slam but also reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking for the first time since 2023.
After his painful loss to Sinner in the Wimbledon final just two months ago, Alcaraz returned with renewed focus and precision. “The first U.S. Open was about my youth, and this one is more maturity,” he said. “Little by little I’m growing, learning how to deal with situations.”
Alcaraz dropped only one set throughout the tournament—the second set of the final—and extended his winning streak to 13 matches. His seventh title of the season confirms his adaptability and resilience, with this victory marking a defining chapter in his rivalry with Sinner.
For Alcaraz, the win was not just about another Grand Slam, but about evolution: the transformation from promise to dominance on the sport’s biggest stages.
