Qatari swimmers strike gold and bronze at Asian Aquatics

NEW DELHI: The Qatari swimming team celebrated a landmark achievement at the 11th Asian Aquatics Championships in Ahmedabad, India, winning two medals — a gold and a bronze — as the competition continues until October 11.

Ali Tamer made history by clinching Qatar’s first-ever gold medal at the event, clocking 22.45 seconds in the 50m freestyle. His triumph marked a breakthrough moment for Qatari swimming on the continental stage.

Teammate Mohammed Mahmoud added to the success by securing bronze in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 28.09 seconds, further boosting Qatar’s medal tally.

The Qatari team, consisting of four swimmers — Tamer, Mahmoud, Hamza Shalaan, and Abdullah Al Ghamri — are competing against athletes from 25 nations across swimming, diving, water polo, and artistic swimming.

This milestone signals a new era for Qatar in aquatics, with hopes high for more success as the championships progress.
