Thailand and UAE win men and women’s team titles at Asia Rugby Sevens

DOHA: Thailand beat Bahrain 17-5 in the men’s final to win the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy here on Saturday night.

Kazakhstan team came third.

The UAE team won the women’s title by beating India 26-5 in the final while Iran finished third after overcoming Guam 10-0 in the playoff match for the third place.

The competition was organized by Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee (QRHC) at Al Ersal pitch in Onazia.

Qatar finished sixth after losing to India 14-19 in the fifth place match, while the women’s team failed to reach the final rounds after strong competition against the teams of the UAE, Iran, and Uzbekistan.

Both Thailand men’s team and the UAE women’s team qualified for the Asian Series competitions that will be held next year and qualify for the 2027 Rugby Sevens World Cup.
