United States tops medal table at Paris Olympics with 40 golds

PARIS: The United States emerged as the top nation at the Paris Olympics, clinching the medals table with 40 gold medals, narrowly edging out China by virtue of their 44 silver medals. Both the U.S. and China secured 40 golds, but the U.S. won the tie thanks to their superior silver medal count, while China managed 27 silvers.
The decisive moment came when the U.S. women’s basketball team secured the final gold of the Games in a thrilling victory over host nation France. The United States also led in the overall medal count, amassing 126 medals compared to China’s 91.
France, the host nation, celebrated a strong showing with 16 golds, finishing fifth in the table. Their total tally of 64 medals marked their best performance in over a century.
