Qatar will send their best team at the 2020 Tokyo Games, says Sheikh Joaan
Doha: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani said the country will send their best athletes to the 2020 Tokyo Games.
“We assessed our performances at the Rio Games, and then decided to launch an elite programme, which will include five federations and have players who’re good enough to win medals for the country. We’ll support them so that they reach their goal,” said Sheikh Joaan.
“Only selected federations are included according to specific criteria and provided their athletes possess certain level in order to qualify to be in the programme.”
It currently includes high jump icon Mutaz Barshim, Qatar equestrian team, and shooters Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and Rashid Al Athba.
“By having others will create legitimate competition among shooters, and within the federations which in turn can produce good sportspersons who can win medals at the international competitions,” he added.
