Nadal deliberates singles entry in Paris, aims for Olympic glory

PARIS: Rafael Nadal has yet to decide whether to enter the singles tournament in Paris on Sunday as he aims to maximise his chances of bringing a medal home. This announcement came after his triumphant start in the Olympic doubles event with his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz.
The dynamic duo, self-dubbed “Nadalcaraz,” began their campaign with an impressive 7-6(4) 6-4 victory over Argentine sixth seeds Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. The packed evening crowd on Court Philippe Chatrier was treated to spectacular tennis, with Nadal and Alcaraz displaying exceptional synergy and skill.
Despite some injury concerns, the 38-year-old Nadal showcased his trademark sharpness. The 14-time French Open champion sealed the opening set with a powerful backhand winner, reinforcing his reputation as one of the sport’s greats. Having previously won two gold medals in singles, Nadal is now contemplating a strategic focus on doubles to boost his medal prospects.
“We are going to make the decisions that we think are most appropriate as a team to try to have the best chances of bringing medals home for the Spanish team, to try to give ourselves the chances of that happening,” Nadal stated.
