Alcaraz battles through injury to secure second round win at Paris Olympics

PARIS: Spain’s tennis sensation, Carlos Alcaraz, faced a challenging second-round match against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor at the Paris Olympics on Monday. Despite being troubled by a groin injury, Alcaraz managed to secure a 6-1, 7-6(3) victory, showcasing his resilience and determination on the court.

The 21-year-old Spaniard revealed that the pain, located in his adductors, required careful management. “I know the way that I have to deal with this pain, it is normal for a tennis player,” Alcaraz told reporters. “The schedule is so tight, so demanding, so I will try to recover as soon and as well as I can tonight to be ready at 100% tomorrow in the doubles.”

Alcaraz is set to pair with the legendary Rafael Nadal for their second-round match in the Olympic doubles tournament. The young star is hopeful that a swift recovery will allow him to compete at full strength. “It is in the adductors, so it is a muscle that requires a lot in the movement, but I will see tonight,” he said.

Despite the discomfort, Alcaraz’s performance was a testament to his tenacity and skill. Back on Court Philippe Chatrier, where he claimed the French Open title earlier this year, the world number three set the tone early with an ace and two forehand winners.
