Toyota announces Formula One return with Haas partnership
Toyota has officially announced its return to Formula One after a 15-year absence, forming a technical partnership with the US-based Haas team. The collaboration, revealed on Friday, marks Toyota’s first foray back into the sport since they left at the end of the 2009 season. During their previous eight-year run, the Japanese manufacturer recorded 13 podium finishes but failed to secure a Grand Prix win.
Haas, currently sitting seventh in the 10-team constructor standings, will benefit from Toyota’s “design, technical, and manufacturing services.” The team will showcase Toyota branding on their cars at the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda expressed enthusiasm about the return, sharing that he “had always regretted” withdrawing from the sport, despite still believing the 2009 decision was justified. Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu voiced excitement about the partnership, highlighting the mutual benefits of working with a world leader in automotive technology.
Additionally, Haas confirmed the signing of French driver Esteban Ocon on a multi-year contract, joining forces with 19-year-old British driver Oliver Bearman for the 2025 season.
