Stage set for Qatar Superstock series
THE inaugural Qatar Superstock 600cc Championship’s opening round will be held at the Losail International Circuit on Saturday.
The qualifying rounds to determine pole position are scheduled for Friday.
The new road race series, launched by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and Losail Circuit Sports Club (LCSC), is aimed at promoting local talents.
Two races will be held in each round of the six-leg series, which runs until May.
All races, except the third round to be run alongside the FIM MotoGP season opener in March, will be held during day.
QMMF President Abdulrahman Al Mannai, LCSC Vice-Chairman Khalid Al Remaihi and five-time World Supersport champion Kenan Sofuoglu had formally launched the one-make series on the sidelines of World Superbike Championship’s final round last month.
“It’s very exciting for us to announce the Qatar Superstock Championship. Our vision is to open the doors to more local riders in such competitions. We’re trying to keep the cost as low as possible so that we can get maximum competitors,” said Al Mannai.
