Race of qatar
THE final round of FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) will be held at the Losail International Circuit on Thursday and Friday.
Argentina’s Jose Maria Lopez has already clinched his third WTCC title, but his Citroen team-mate Yvan Muller needs to ensure he does not make any major slip-up in the Race of Qatar to secure the second place.
Muller, who is set for his WTCC swansong, has 235 points, but the Honda trio of Tiago Monteiro (204 points) and Norbert Michelisz (190) are all still in with a chance to finish second.
Another star to watch out for is Morocco’s Mehdi Bennani, who became the first Arab driver to win a WTCC round in China in 2014.
Bennani has quite often spoke about Qatar as a ‘second home’ and is relishing his return to Losail.
“For sure, Morocco and Qatar are very close, the people are very close as there’re a lot of partnerships between both countries. And when I race in Qatar, it’s really like competing in Marrakech. So I hope to have a fantastic race,” said Bennani.
