QMMF to organise online bike racing championship from May 10

Doha, Qatar: After the big success of the Qatar Online Racing Championship for cars last month, the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) will organise a race for bikes from May 10.

The fortnight-long competition will start with qualifying competitions comprising three groups of 14 riders each.

The four best riders from each group will battle for the title in the final.

The virtual series for cars received an overwhelming response, which prompted QMMF to hold one for the bike racing enthusiasts.

“As most people are staying at home during the Covid-19 pandemic, the objective will be to host an online racing competition to bring together the motor racing community,” said Amro Al Hamad, Executive Director of the QMMF.

The registration for entries was open from yesterday, and Al Hamad expected a good response.

“The competition is going to start next Sunday. We have opened up registration for entries from today. The series will be held for 42 competitors and it’s going to be for two weeks,” he said.

“The first week is going to be for qualifiers, the second week is going to be for the final, like we did for cars. There is going to be three groups and the races will be held on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“The first race will start at 9 pm. The fastest four from each group will qualify for the finals, which means 12 riders will battle for the top honours in the fin“al week,” Al Hamad added.
